  • Physiological needs: For those employees looking for a new job, we found 57% cited the need for more money as the driving motivation. While the argument could be made that employees who are treated well become less focused on pay, it is clearly an important way for employers to demonstrate they appreciate employees. Organizations can support their employees’ physiological needs in a variety of ways.
  • Safety & security needs: Wellbeing is becoming an increasingly powerful way to demonstrate employee appreciation. Desk-based organizations face different (but not fewer) challenges to their deskless counterparts in terms of impact on employee wellbeing, so tailor your offerings to your demographics and industry.
  • Love & belonging needs: For your employees to feel engaged with your organization, they have to feel a sense of belonging and connection with the company and their co-workers. In 2024, we found that 42% of employees ranked a feeling of belonging at work as more important than a 10% pay raise. Building a culture of appreciation includes making sure people have pathways and opportunities to connect and bond with each other.
  • Self-esteem needs: This tier of employee experience is all about being seen and acknowledged for one’s efforts, along with opportunities for growth and professional development.
