Career spotlights

October is Disability Employment Awareness MonthOctober is Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to recognize the value, talent and contributions of people with disabilities in the workplace, and to reaffirm the importance of equitable access to employment opportunities. Disability inclusion strengthens organizations, broadens perspectives and helps create workplaces where every employee can contribute and thrive. In October, organizations can observe the occasion by highlighting disabled voices, reviewing hiring and accessibility practices, offering staff learning opportunities and taking meaningful steps to build a more inclusive culture – not just for a month, but year-round.

Roles and industries highlighted in October:

1st – National Women-Owned Business Day | Celebrate women entrepreneurs, spotlight women-led partners or vendors and recognize the innovation women bring to business and leadership.

2nd – National Manufacturing Day

2nd – National Custodial Worker's Recognition Day | Don’t miss this opportunity to highlight your organization’s custodial staff and everything they do to keep your workplace clean, safe and operating smoothly.

Celebrating social groups

career-spotlightPolish American Heritage Month, celebrated each October, is a time to recognize the history, culture and lasting contributions of Polish Americans to communities, workplaces and the broader American story. Organizations can observe it by sharing educational resources, highlighting Polish American voices and achievements, and creating opportunities to celebrate the traditions and perspectives that enrich our collective culture.

LGBT+ History Month honors the history, resilience and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and communities. It offers organizations a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the impact of LGBT individuals, foster greater understanding and support inclusion by elevating stories, sharing educational content and creating space for reflection, learning and belonging.

October snackings

I have maintained that engagement strategies should include snacks all year long, and I’m not backing down now. October is full of easy food-themed moments that can turn into office treats, virtual recipe swaps, food trucks, themed lunches or just a fun line in the newsletter.

National Pizza Month gives you a whole month’s worth of reasons to treat the team, support a local pizzeria or let everyone debate the merits of pineapple in a psychologically safe environment. (I’m pro-pineapple and cannot be talked out of it.)

1st – International Coffee Day

1st – National Homemade Cookies Day

4th – Cinnamon Roll Day

4th – National Taco Day
